It's Here! Delaware Permit.
« on: April 26, 2011, 06:58:00 PM »
This is a New Permit.  Sent everything in on 12/28/10 and arrived today 4/26.  I have had my FL permit since January.  Is it normal to still feel wrong/strange to cc?  Any suggestions on how to ease into it or should I just leave now for the closest Walmart and get over it?

Congrats on your new permit. Go ahead and get it over with.  Despite that feeling that you will have a giant neon sign pointing to your waistband it will all be in your head. Enjoy.

Like hawkeye said....you'll be the only one who knows. It will take some getting used to and probably alot of trial and error with holster/guns. Before long you will strap that thing on and almost forget its there.
Honey I swear I've had that gun for years!

Congrats! It won't be long and you won't even know you have it on. I find myself touching it just to be  sure I still have it on.

Probably took me a good 6 months till concealed carry felt 'normal.'

At first I tried a Glock-19 (compact double stack 9 mm) and various iwb holsters; had to wear a jacket to feel comfortable. But eventually I did.

I then for  giggles tried a kel-tec pf9 (also 9mm, but a very compact single stack) and that just 'clicked' for me. :D I carry it with a pocket holster daily, spare mag in the other pocket. Feels right for me.

I was worried about ND at first, and therefore did not carry condition 1 initially. Got mixed advice, but had to listen to myself. As you get comfortable, and please read as much as you can (and try to separate the gold from the dross) you'll learn to be safe.

I never forget I'm carrying; and it's a good feeling. It's when I am headed to places I cannot carry (e.g. the prothonary's office to renew) that I'm uncomfortable.

Wow 4 months.  What county did you apply?  NCC?

I applied in Kent County but when I had my prints done, they didn't do the CCW background check they did the standard (daycare type) background check.  So by the time that was figured out my app got mixed in with the renewals.  I'm guessing that is why it took a little longer.  So remember to make sure they really understand what check you are requesting.

John, yes it is normal to feel wierd when you start to carry. Although it does not make sense from the personal protection point of view, at first, wear it places where you are already comfortable, the places where you usually hang out. I don't know if I ever will forget I am carrying, and that's probably not a bad thing.

Congratulations John. In no time at all, packin' iron will be second nature to you. The right gun and holster will increase your confidence. You'll find what works best for you, if you haven't already.

By the way, what are you carrying?
