Disappointed with my Milpro
« on: May 18, 2012, 08:45:40 PM »
While I have been a staunch defender of Taurus it looks like I may have to change my views.  My Taurus MilPro PT111 seemed to defy critics for several years as it seemed to work flawlessly with over 1000 rounds through it.  It developed a fatal flaw, it would drop magazines while firing.  I sent it to Taurus and they returned it saying it was fixed.  They said the slide had broken and they replaced it with a "new" one. Odd how this "new" one seemed to have what looked like holster wear of a couple of the edges.  Anyway, I took it to the range today and the magazine dropped again on just the 3rd round.  It dropped two more times by the time I finished my second magazine.  While Taurus guarantees the firearm for life I do not feel it is worth the cost of shipping to send it back because after this I will never fully trust it again and I will not carry a firearm I cannot trust.

I am beginning to come around to your way of thinking, Hawkeye.

Considering the accuracy issue we talked about in previous posts, and this magazine problem, has me wanting to get rid of my PT111.  It's unfortunate, because it is very comfortable, light and easy to conceal.

Anybody want to buy it...it's the Titanium model?   [sarcasm]  Very rare and quite valuable  [sarcasm]

If I'm carrying a revolver, it's a Smith & Wesson.
If I'm carrying a semi-auto, it's a Glock.

I'm a terrible pessimist. I trust nothing & nobody... but I trust my Glocks, and I trust my J-frames.

I have the same. My S&W 642 is my primary CCW for now and my Glock 21sf is for when I OC.  I am looking at the possibility of getting a Ruger. My wife and daughter have the SR9c and my son-in-law has the SR40c.  I am currently leaning towards the 40.

As you may be able to tell I have a SR9, Duh. I love it. I have no problem carrying concealed, although the SR9C is smaller it also has less capacity. The SR9 holds 18 rounds, while the SR9C holds only 11. Same goes for the 40 cal. series. I got my IWB holster from www.theholsterstore.com
The Deep Comfort IWB is what I carry all day everyday. Love it. Only 4 days to get it, and it is made in Florida and stocked.

Taurus e-mailed me a FedEx label today so I can send it back for repair.  We'll see how it works.

I know I'm reviving an old thread, but thought I would let you know I replaced my PT111 with a Glock 26.  I haven't fired it yet...maybe after I get the magazine extensions so my pinkie will be on the grip.

i don't see the point of the grip extension on the 26.  It makes the grip as long as a 19.  At that point, I'd rather carry my 19 for the 5 extra rounds ???

fdegree, excellent choice on the G26. Congratulations! Definitely get the extension (+0), very well designed, doesn't add a bit to the size of the gun.

Do you recommend one manufacturer over another?
Pierce...Scherer...Glock...etc.

I have pierce +0, two thumbs up. I don't have experience with other manufacturers. The desgin is really nice, the bottom is the same length as the regular magazine then it raises towards inside and out of the gun so you can place your finger. The place where it raises, as I said, goes toward inside and out so it has no affect on the overall length of the stock as far as concealment is concerned.
