No Carry in Kent County Administrative Bldg
« on: July 11, 2012, 10:23:12 PM »
While entering the Kent County Administrative Complex at 555 Bay Road I was asked to empty my pockets and walk through a detector.  I wasn't carrying but I asked the guard if a CCDW works in the County Bldg.  He surprised me by saying "Oh no! Not in a State or federal building, Sir".  I said "This is a County owned building”. He said "I wouldn't be here, armed, if this wasn't a state owned building".  Who would have known?

Safe thing to remember is no carrying on or in ANY government property. Not on "The Green" in Dover or Delaware State Fair Grounds, The VA, or Post Office.

According to KC Parks & Rec, they were required to remove "no carry" signs from County owned parks as it was contrary to State law.  I believe legal concealed carry is OK in County owned parks.

Thus I was puzzled that the heretofore County owned building is in fact State owned.  It was suggested that a State service may be walled up in that building somewhere and that would be enough to tip the scale.

I don't see anything other than it being a County owned building.  A State agency within the building...it would still be a County building.

I see there are Judges that work there...are there Court rooms inside?

The Kent County political body is called Levy Court, but that's just a holdover for the right to levy taxes.  There is a JOP that marries people last I heard.

Also, no carry in the VA clinic on Gov. Ave in Dover. There is a sign posted as you go into the clinic. Rest of the building is ok. VA leases space in building, but doesn't own it. No signs at the entrance to the building itself.
