Finally broke down and got an AR
« on: December 21, 2012, 09:57:04 PM »
Well with a new assault weapons ban looming, I finally purchased my first AR. It's a American Tactical Omni polymer lower with a DTI upper chambered in 5.56.

Looks good Sig. Nice purchase.
I just bought some spare Mec Gar magazines for my P-226. Just in case the high capacity pistol mags go away also.

My response to recent events:
I'm going to wait a couple of months, and then I'm going to buy a Springfield M1A.

Two reasons:
--I've always wanted one
--The two combat vets I've asked, both of whom have fought and killed with a M16/M4, would pick an M1A over an AR-15 any day of the week...

Congratulations Sig!

I did the same thing. I bought an M&P 15 22 just for fun. And it is CHEAP fun. But it did make me want for more! LOL

So after the election I decided that I had better get one just in case there would be a problem later. I bought the RRA ATH. Wow that thing is a tack driver and I love it!

Looking for some range reports  ;D

M1A is a nice present for yourself OldGray. Wouldn't mind one myself. But why wait a few months? There was one at X-Ring two days ago (I was in there buying an XDs). You can also get an M1 Garand from the CMP.

I heart my Garand! It is an beautiful rifle and probably my favorite to shoot.  I've been wanting an M1A myself.

I taught and shot M-14 and M-16 marksmanship in USMC.  Although I can’t say that I noticed any down-range target performance differences, I did have to hold my nose when the M-16’s started phasing in.  Or maybe it was because the M-14 was phasing out.  To really put salt/lemon juice solution on the open wound:  We were told the M-14’s were going to the reserves!

Still, now I would welcome an AR.

The way things are going now, you are lucky to get a good one at a decent price. Prices they are selling right now are ridiculous.

Sig, let us know how it goes at the range - also, don't forget they like to run wet, really wet.

I wouldn't waste my money to buy any "tatical weapon" such as an AR-15 now, because you probably will be turning it over to the gobmnt soon. Money wasted. Also heard any semi-auto loader with a mag bigger than 10 rounds of ammo has to go. If you have a gun with a larger mag you will have to get 10 rounders.

I believe if any ban comes out of these discussions that current owners will be grandfathered.

From people I've talked to, that won't happen. Too many out there and people will not turn them in.
