Back up gun
« on: April 20, 2009, 11:36:40 PM »
Ok I was wondering how many of you have considered carrying a back up gun and if so what. For me I think one gun is enough if I did it would be probably a S&W AirLight in
38 spc. or one of the S&W M&P revolvers.

A little 5 shot with either no hammer spur or an enclosed hammer.

I would say the same, a j-frame 38 snubbie. I've never carried a back up weapon and don't think I ever would consider just due to the lack of hiding spaces on me. I'm @@@@ close to needing a batman utility belt as it is and if I add another gun to the mix I'll need to wear suspenders
Honey I swear I've had that gun for years!

Although I have often backed up a semi with a wheel-gun, your first choice for a back-up should be one that functions like the main gun.  Having it in the same caliber is even better, and the best would be to have interchangeable mags.

But I’m certainly not against wheel-guns.  One specific application for using a wheel-gun as a “back-up” (although it really wouldn’t be a back-up, in this scenario) would be having a hammer-shrouded unit in a pocket.  The shrouding prevents the material getting in the way, and the simplistic action of the weapon itself allows it to function (unless you’re wearing really big clothing, there’s probably not enough room in your pocket to cycle a semi).
Very few guns are actually "illegal guns."  A gun misappropriated by a criminal is no more of an "illegal gun" than a stolen car is an "illegal car."

I look at back up guns as more of a duty weapon for the most part there are very few places to put a back up gun on a person if your carrying IWB then you either go to the ankle of a fanny pack. Now I could see keeping a back up in a bag or in my car.
