Teflon Lube for hand guns
« on: August 21, 2013, 06:55:44 PM »
My favorite lite gun to carry is the Ruger LCP .380, with the pocket holster it can not be seen and is comfy to have in a pocket. The light coat of gun oil collects pocket fuzz especially from jeans. Is it ok to use liquid Teflon lube that dries and leaves a light coating of powdered Teflon?

Thanks!

None of my handguns are 'wet' in anyway. I use a product called Fluid Film which is applied either by spray or q-tip. Once it's applied it's wiped lightly away. Even if you scrub or polish it there remains a protective and lubricant film that remains. Haven't used Teflon so can't comment on it however I don't agree that most firearms need to be wet in order to properly function. Wetness leads to additional buildup of crud and can gum up and even promote additional wear on parts. Sure if you're going to put 1000+ rounds down range rapid fire I'd wet it up some but a pocket pistol will never see that type of use.

I think the dry Teflon spray would be fine. I used to use it on my snow shovel.
Test it and see if it feels slippery to the touch.
