One of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's (R) bodyguards was charged with shoplifting in Berks County, PA. He has since been suspended without pay.
According to CBS Philly, 35-year-old State Trooper William Carvounis was part of "the executive protection unit and had been on Christie's security detail."
Police in Tilden Township, PA, allege Carvounis may have "stolen nearly $300 in gun supplies and other merchandise from a Cabela's sporting goods store." CCTV "also caught Carvounis tearing the price tag from a Cabela's hat, which he wore while trying to leave the store."
When caught, Carvounis told those who apprehended him that he too was in law enforcement and asked "again and again for a little professional courtesy."
Carvounis's lawyer denies that his client was shoplifting or "asking for special treatment."
