I also have a feeling about how valid this story is. Hey anything is possible even in CA but I just have a feeling about this one.

Dont sweat it.  It's a spoof news site, like The Onion (www.onion.com).   It is not the actual NY Times site.  Note that it's nytimes.com.co.  A different top level domain.  Also, if you follow the link then click the link for the home page,  you'll see other patently spoof news articles.
