i like them. but i need something for being a lefty. so something ambidextrous would be better suited for me , but a series 70 would be great. i'm gonna have to get over to federal firearms and get my hands on a few to see what i like

PPS not to let you down here it comes.....

FreakShow the FNX has ambidextrous everything.  If you want to see it let me know.  You may be able to see it at Chris's that's where I purchased mine from.
Once you get your CCDW, I'll take my rig off and let you put it on to see how well you can conceal it.  Have several holsters for it too (w/ light, w/o).

There are many options in your price range. My opinion, go with Springfield Armory. Get a TRP if you want full size or an EMP if you want compact (9mm or .40s&w). Here is the thing about 1911s, they are addictive. The best production 1911 IMO comes from SA.

The TRP also has ambisafety, and it is built to similar specs to the FBI Professional. It is worth the extra cash.

I got the springfield loaded in stainless. Chris had to order it, but it will be at his place in a few days. the blued one he had was nice to hold. i held a ruger at shooter choice last week and i felt so heavy compared to the springfield. i'm so glad everyone here put in the right direction to federal firearms.

Rugers are made of Cast steel, SA are forged. Hence the felt difference, I believe.

Congratulations on your gun.

Ruger now has a new SR1911 CMD lightweight. Moving in at a full 10oz less then the current cast model. I have the SR1911 CMD and personally like the weight. It's a joy to shoot and the weight helps control the felt recoil very nicely.

I do however understand why people prefer lightweight models though.

i looked at one at shooter's choice. i was surprised on how heavy it was. that's the only thing i didn't like about the. but i'm guessing different gun feel different in different hands. it looked really good in person though.
