Have you gone to Shooters Choice in Dover and looked at any of their used/new guns not to buy but at least to handle.
I'm not 100% sure on this but I think they let you fire their used handguns.

Yup.. Shooters Choice usually has a decent selection of used handguns for rent. You do need to purchase their ammo to shoot with which is pretty much standard to keep people from firing off hand loads. Great way to try out a few to see what you like before buying and of course.. you don't have to buy from them...

My Ruger SR9c came with a standard 10 rd magazine  and a 17 rd extended mag. I paid $430 which at the time was a bargain. They still price out in the mid-$400 range. FederalFirearms may be able to find you one but GOG and Bud's are out of stock which I'm told is a fair indicator of availability.
I have fired both the full-sized and compact models and can say from my own experience that both are equally reliable and accurate.
