Questions about arrest history before applying
« on: October 03, 2016, 12:22:00 PM »
Hello all-

I am considering applying for my CCDW license, but I have an arrest on my record, and I was hoping for some thoughts on how much that will negatively impact my chances of being approved.

So for background, I am currently 30 years old, work in Investing.  I live in Wilmington in a decent neighborhood, but like most of Wilmington, two blocks in most directions will land you in the not-so-nice areas of the city.  As for the arrest on my record; It occurred 11 years ago during a domestic argument with my then girlfriend.  Long story short, she was hitting me, I restrained her/pushed her away, she wound up with bruises, and me being 6'3" 200+ pounds, and her 5'1", you can imagine who would up getting charged for that incident.  I was charged with misdemeanor assault, opted for probation before judgement, completed probation, and the charges were dismissed.  I know Delaware is may issue, so I was just hoping for opinions on how my chances look for being approved.  I haven't had so much as a speeding ticket since that occurred, so my record is otherwise spotless.

As a corollary, would having my record expunged be of any benefit?  I know that the state will still be able to see the arrest record if I do try for expungement, so I'm wondering if that will provide any benefit here at all.

Thank you for any feedback.  cheers

Nope, probation completed without incident, even had it ended earlier than required.  I've bought a half dozen firearms since then, and have had literally zero contact with police.

I've also found Francis Farren (http://farren-law.com/ccdw-appeals/4126070 ) who seems to specialize in this sort of thing, I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with him as well.
