Not a good Idea, take it to the Prothonatary and let them notarize it . You must sign application in their presence.

I would suggest you wait to notarize it just before sending it if you are mailing it.
It doesn't need to be signed in their presence if the Prothonotary’s office isn't notarizing it.
I had my bank do it for free the first time around and all was ok.

If you are going to hand deliver it you can have it notarized in the Prothonotary’s office free.

Do what ever is easiest for YOU.  I always had the lady at work do it for me.

If you are in NCC and you sign it in front of me, I'll notorize it for you.

Also, if you have it notarized now, the notary's commission could expire at end of Dec. and not be valid in 2017.

If you have it notarized by anyone other than the Prothonataries office, make sure their commission does not expire on 12/31/2016.

Also my experience is that the Prothonatary's office will look over you application before notarizing it to make sure all in good. If you take it to someone that has no knowledge of what is required, you may be opening yourself up for a delay in having to get the application bounced. Having to reapply and get it notarized all over.

Easiest way to apply:

Get application, either on line or in person.
Fill out in triplicate
Make sure you fill out all boxes
Make sure you have your pictures in compliance
Get at least 5 good references from your county
Have verification of you ad being in paper 10 days in advance
Get fingerprinting and background check done and attach proof
Have your proof of NRA training course attached
Take all to Prothonatary and have them check it and notarize it for free

This is the quickest and most accurate way to apply.

My commission expires in May 2020.

Didn't one or two here have them look it over and they missed a question that was not answered?

We're making a MAJOR production out of something that is EASY to do.

The only other thing I would suggest to the OP is write your name on the back of the photos with a felt tip pen.
(just in case if the applications hit the floor)

Yes, but I'm a renewal, so that doesn't apply to me..

I know the earliest I can renew is Jan 3rd, just trying to understand if it can be notarized in Dec 2016.

Have the prothonatary's office notarize it and make sure everything is filled our correctly and get a Receipt just in case your application gets lost in the process.
