Thinking about buying a Revolver
« on: February 01, 2017, 05:32:21 PM »
I have been thinking about adding a wheel gun to my small collection. I want to be able to carry it as an alternate to my G43 I carry now.

I've been looking into the S&W Bodyguard 38 or maybe the Ruger LCR in 9mm....

Just trying to see if anyone has any recommendations of what to buy or look into.

I'd recommend the LCR 9mm it is highly rated and well made. Lots to be said for a revolver still.

My favorite is the Ruger GP100 357Mag.
Incredibility fun pistol to shoot, easy to maintain, very accurate, and lasts forever.
I have had mine for 25 years and put over 10K round through it.

We like wheel guns  ;D

Have a few and always great to shoot them! For carry, my favorite would be the Ruger SP101 357/38 Stainless 5-shot Spurless/Bobbed Hammer Model 5720. Carry it with either 357mag or 38spl. The weight of this revolver suits the 357 well but 38spl defensive ammo today is just fine as well and shots pretty light in it. IMO this is one of the best CC revolvers one can buy and Ruger overbuilds their revolvers so they last forever. Personally I want something with a bit of heft and do not like most of the light weight revolvers on the market. Additionally there are a few places one can ship the cylinder to be slightly machined to add 9mm ammo as well! A Hogue grip can be added for extended 357 heavy range days.

I own 2 and one will accept 357mag, 38spl & 9mm which is kinda fun at the range. Makes an amazing CHTF revolver with its ability to take 3 very common rounds... if that's a thing for you lol. I believe you can contact Ruger and they can also provide you with a cylinder chambered in all three also however they need the complete handgun to ensure the action timing works properly with the new cylinder.

The Ruger GP100 add an additional round for 6-shots but I've found its a bit heavier and larger then I like to carry. Makes for one heck of a night table revolver however!

Thank you for the suggestions. I may go up to TSS and see if they have a few to try out before I make my decision.

Nothing against Chris as he is a great guy, knowledgeable and we're lucky to have him here but do some research and go test fire a few guns you think you want then go and see Chris. Ask him or people here about your selection and if its the right choice for the purpose.

Mrs Sinker has a Taurus Model 82, 4" in 38spl.  I can't comment on using it as a carry weapon, but it sure is fun to shoot!

I've always wanted to add a wheel gun to my collection, but I just can't seem to find that 6" blued Colt Python for $1,000.  :(
