Confusion related to schools
« on: May 09, 2017, 06:02:31 PM »
So I just read where the TX senate has voted to allow permit holders to keep guns locked in their cars parked in the school parking lot

http://www.fox7austin.com/news/local-news/253355031-story

I thought based on federal law if you had a permit having a gun in a locked car parked in a school parking lot was ok.  It was only if you took the gun into the actual school building that was problematic.  Am I incorrect in this statement?  I mean the article was specific to TX but in DE if you have a gun locked in a car in a school parking lot is going to get you jammed up?

The scenario I'm thinking about if I am out and legally carrying and my brother law calls me to pick up my nephew from school because he is unable to make it, do I need to return home first and disarm?

I love the laws of this land. I can carry in a school, but I can't in a state park!

Yes. Just completed a thread on county buildings. And previously a thread on casinos being smoke and mirrors. Thanks for updating.

Not sure if it matters and if its worth updating but the official word from Shooters Choice is you can conceal in the store and on the range they just don't want you taking the concealed weapon out while on the range and shooting.

Their policy as stated. They will now let you conceal carry, but you cannot take it out and shoot it on the range?

As they explained it yes.  For all guns that you plan on using on the range it must be cased and unloaded so they can check it at the desk.  I took an empty case with me and just took my care gun out of my holster cased it went in and shot and when I came back I just reholsted.

It's just policy of the place you shoot at.  They dont want you messing with a loaded gun before getting to a lane to shoot.

When I shoot action pistol, I wait until it's close to my time to shoot.  Unholster and put loaded gun in range bag
(finger off the trigger and maintaining safe direction).  Practice with my carry gun's twin.
At then end of the evening, put twin in range bag, holster loaded carry gun.

Shooter's Choice use to be a good place to go, but since Dave Lawson got out, it has gone down hill and the service is poor, at best. The gal that runs it is definitely not a people person.

Most of the staff at Shooters has followed this policy for quite some time. For the past 4+ years I've concealed in there and many of the staff have stated they don't care as long as its not handled or displayed in the showroom or drawn on the range. Cant really blame them with how so many people handle firearms. Its scary to watch! Additionally.. too many accidents happen during a draw and holstering a firearm.

Similar to Randor.. When I shoot there I'll usually bring one of my other PPQs along and leave my carry concealed. If I want to put a few rounds through my carry then I'll grab one of the other PPQs and holster / conceal that for the day.

Can't say much about anything else though as I haven't purchased of used them as anything else but a range since meeting Chris.  ;D

It's how careless some people are.  Every Monday night I draw loaded gun WHILE MAINTAINING A SAFE DIRECTION and put in range bag.  Holster it's empty twin.
Shoot the COF at AP then swap them again.
