Difficulty of getting a DE CCW by county
« on: March 28, 2019, 03:45:23 PM »
As I recall, the difficulty of getting a DE CCW varies by county. From north to south, the counties are New Castle, Kent and Sussex. If you had to describe each as either easy, somewhat difficult, or very difficult to get a CCW, how would you describe each of those counties?

I dont think it's any more difficult by county.  Same hoops.
Processing times seem faster as you go south.

Guess we up north cant call them lower slower anymore.

By "difficulty" I wasn't saying that each county had different procedural hoops to jump through, but that their issuing authority had different Good Cause/Justifiable Reason (or whatever term is for DE), discretionary standard. Thus, someone saying they need a CCW because they regularly take several semiautomatic rifles, shotguns and pistols along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition to the range may get issued a DE CCW because of that in one county, but not in another.

That is not correct.  The reason as “protection of life and property” has been accepted in all counties.  As was noted here it seems the lower counties process the licenses faster.   Approvals do not seem to be different as the recommendation to the judge is by the State AG office.

Effectively we are “shall issue” unless something comes up.

Many years ago a group of UPS people took the class and applied for the CCW. The people from Kent County got approved. The people from Sussex County were denied by Judge Swain Lee. We had to wait for him to leave before we could get ours. Who said "One monkey can't stop the show"? LOL

Sad to admit that Judge William Swain Lee was a Republican, appointed by Gov. Mike Castle (RINO).

Not all Republicans are good and not all Democrats are bad.  Our state parks victory was 3-2 with the vote of Democrat Justice James Vaughn.
