MAGA hat incident in PA
« on: January 10, 2020, 07:30:24 AM »
Wow! This one has a ton of variables and a lucky outcome. What would you if you were wearing the hat? Think through your actions before, during, and after. Were Ability, Opportunity, Jeopardy (Intent), and Preclusion (De-escalation) steps applied?

Trump hater orders man to remove MAGA hat; he refuses. So Trump hater makes threat, takes swing at hat — and victim pulls out his gun

You are not supposed to pull your firearm unless threatened, but having read of crazed, mad, dems, he was justified.

Considering the outcome, it went well. Don't know if this would be the same in Delaware, as in Dover and most malls here, they are "No Gun Zones", and likely more liberal than where this happened in PA. The thing is that the malls can ban guns, even concealed carry, but the worst that can happen, in DE., is they kick you out of the mall. But, they must understand that when you leave, so does your wallet, credit/debit card. family, friends, other carriers, and possibly co-workers in protest of the malls action. Are they willing to withstand the financial revenue loss to prove their point?

It will have NO impact on them at all.

Dicks sporting goods stopped selling the evil black guns (MSR) after Parkland shooting.  Parkland shooting occurred on 2/14/18.  On 2/12/18 DKS was trading @ $33.54.
Then they made the decision to stop selling the MSR.  Then ammo.  Everyone was (is) going to boycott them. Gonna close up shop.  Guess what TODAY DKS is trading at $48.58.

Let’s refocus.

1. Would you have worn a MAGA hat to a public place and risk an incident that could escalate to deadly force? It did cause the sheep to ‘stampede’ out of the mall. What is the balance between freedom and discretion?

2. What would you do in the same circumstance?  Was there disproportionate force?  The article doesn’t describe the participants.

3. As the concealed carrier, would you call the police to report the incident?

This is a shady area, it edges on victim blaming. Me personally, I would not shy away from my normal attire because it may offend someone.

I wear my MAGA hat a lot and to most public places, or I wear my NRA, or Vietnam Veteran hat.

I don't have a MAGA hat, but wear my NRA hat a lot. I get a lot of positive comment about that NRA hat. Just renewed my membership and have a new NRA hat coming.

Excellent questions, all.

1. No, to minimize my attack signature.
2. I am fully disabled, so I would reasonably fear death or serious injury from such an assault.
3. Yes, so I could have them charge the attacker with assault.

@OGG, since we have similar profiles, my answers are the same.
The reason to call the police immediately is to establish you as the victim and to preempt the attacker from claiming that you threatened him with a gun and scared all the shoppers. If the perp calls first, the police arrest you and ask questions later.
