I am more than pissed over this. Rodney had slaves and many others did also. The left is just trying to take our history away from us. Slavery was a very bad thing but how many white man lost their lives during the Civil Way to abolish slavery? If you don't like a statue just don't look at it. What is next the George Washington Memorial in DC? America is not only in the toilet bowl but it has been flushed and the water is swirling. Glad to be 78yrs old because I won't be around when the end finally comes. Regards to all. Sorry for the rant but I have had it.

Rodney was a true hero. Sick with cancer in a blinding rainstorm he rode overnight 75 miles on horseback from Dover to Philadelphia to cast the  deciding vote for American independence July 1776.

The politicians should hang their heads in shame. They are not worthy to lick the mud off Rodneys boots.

This Purzycki  is the true racist. He organized a campaign to get white voters who were Republican or Independent to change their registration to Democrat in the 2016 primary  that he could beat the black candidates with a plurality for and give Wilmington a white mayor again. He was of course elected in November as Wilmington is a one party city.

Will a protest be organized against this?

Personally I am not a fan of Columbus as it is a proven fact that he was not the first European to come to North America and what is now the US. It is kind of the first Fake News incident. Not being a Delaware native, as I have only lived here a little over 55 years of my 75, I still see a tribute to Caesar Rodney as a valid historical figure in the nations greatness. I especially admire his "tie-breaker" vote for freedom. Just think even back then, as today, there were people that didn't want us to be a free nation under God. Sad!

Christopher Columbus was the first to bring Christianity to the New World.  He was sent to provide a trade Route to eastern Asia and quite by accident Found the western hemisphere.

He was sent by Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain to also bring Christianity to the inhabitants encountered. This is why the statue means so much.   While he might not have been the first European to land in this hemisphere he was instrumental in bringing Christianity and western civilization to this part of the world

And that is the reason that the communists and  leftists hate him.  They hate Christianity and they hate western civilization.

They hate Christianity and they hate western civilization.

Granted, I'm not your typical Leftist, but let me reply on their behalf:
They don't hate Christianity or Western civilization... but they feel both are overrated.

so,  i can eee ther point tho....

Because when i see BLM painted on the momorial,
I only see the destruction,  killed police officers, glass in pizza, burnt buildings.
world falling apart, like 2012 movie.

So,  when they see a slave owner statue.....  yup. same, just the bad they did ..

So,  if slave statues are bad,  all statues , are bad?
and there can be no Floyd memorials?

We should petition a law, that states no criminals to have statues...   so that should cover politicians   too?
of course this is just  a opinion,  not the general concensus of the concieled carry site.

But they sure do LOVE the benefits it has brought them.  Emigration to the third world is nil and when it does occur the ex-pats want to bring their comforts with them.

Things we obviously didn't know about Columbus:
https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/christopher-columbus

History suggest Columbus was likely of Jewish decent, but tried to cover it up. It doesn't sound to me like he was responsible for bringing Christianity to America, possibly others did because of the route he stumbled onto to get here

Vikings were here way ahead of him.

Of course it is despicable. But look at the alternative. If the statues were left in place, they likely would have been toppled and destroyed. My take is the Mayor removed them to protect them. Who knows....maybe when rationality ever returns, they can be returned. I'm not holding my breath, but to see them destroyed would have been worse.

The Wilmington statue of Columbus was erected by the Knights of Columbus from St Anthony in the 50’s.  It was organized by Father Roberto Baldicelli who came to Wilmington in the 1940s.  He was beloved by so many and died on his 100th birthday a few years ago.  During World War 2 in Italy he saved a large number of children from American and British bombers.  He then came here, became a citizen and loved the country that almost killed him

On the subject of statues, I believe America is the only nation that allows statues as memorials to people that they defeated in war. Yes I'm talking about the Civil War. I see no reason to have statues to honor people that tried to topple the united States of America. We don't have statues to pay honor to Hitler, King George III, or Stalin. So why have statues of Confederate leaders. They lost, and the South will never "rise again", as they say. That also goes for the Rebel flag. We don't fly the Swastika, Hammer & Sickle, or the Union Jack, as they were the flags of governments/countries that tried to topple America.
I believe this whole thing about statues is an absurd  joke.

At my house, we fly the American flag day and night, with pride and honor
