This is just that, a forum. This is not a formal organization and I think the consensus here is to keep it that way.
I hope I did not give the impression I was suggesting DECCW.com morph into something else. I just meant it could be used as a "forum" for activists to discuss, organize and meeting to then go out and be active.
For instance, in CA, several activists on CalGuns.Net got together and formed the Calguns Foundation:
www.calgunsfoundation.org IIRC, CGNers were also behind:
https://www.facebook.com/calffl and
https://www.facebook.com/gunpolicy https://www.firearmspolicy.org/Others stayed primarily on the forum (rather than launching some other org) and using it as I described above to push for the Riverside County sheriff to accept "self-defense" as a sufficient "Good Cause" statement for getting a CCW (what we call "virtual Shall Issue" vSI). (see:
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=950315) Riverside Co has a pop. of 2.3M CAians.
Others in Merced County got active on CGN and FB and swung the last election so a pro-CCW sheriff won over an anti, liberating 263k CAians!
Others in San Joaquin County (pop 700k), got active in that election, confronting the incumbent so that he had to switch to vSI lest they throw the election to a pro-CCW challenger.
Again, the folks met, did initial organizing and recruiting via CGN w/o turning it into yet another NRA competitor.
So, even though the
Peruta case is still stuck in appellate hell, we're making significant inroads on the Left Coast. If
Peruta gets finalized, then you can see places like Alameda Co (think Oakland and CCWs' impact on crime), Santa Clara and San Mateo counties (think Silicon Valley), SF (cultural center), and LA (cultural center w/10M population), readily issuing CCWs.
What I hope is that we continue to be a repository for information related to all aspects of firearms with the emphasis on carrying for self defense.
This board does a great job at helping newcomers through the system, sharing experiences about the process, and conveying information on safe practices.
There are other formal organizations out there and we forum members can and do support those who lobby for our rights.
If you guys are happy the way things are going in DE, I won't complain. Be sure to keep your eye on the
Peruta (CA),
Richards (CA), and
Baker (HI) carry cases out of CA9 and the
Palmer carry case out of the D.C. Circuit. Things should get interesting in the next year or two....
Wish you the best!
